Already translated into thirteen languages, the Artmajeur marketplace is the leading platform of its type in Europe, and the second-largest worldwide. Founded in Clapiers, just north of Montpellier, by Samuel Charmetant and Yann Sarazin, the company is a member of French Tech and FrenchSouth.digital
With millions of works, 140,000 artist members on five continents, and over 1,000 works sold every month, the artmajeur.com online art marketplace is booming, featuring everything from paintings and sculptures to digital arts, street art, photography, land art and more.
“We generated 10 million euros in sales in 2017, with annual progression over the past three years of nearly 50%,” Samuel Charmetant is pleased to say.
Both emerging and established artists present their selections, selling works directly anywhere from 50 € to 20,000 €. The average price is usually around 700 € to 800 €. “Unlike galleries that promote artists, we do not make any specific selection of our own and do not take any commission,
” explains Samuel Charmetant.
“The Occitanie regional edition of our bi-monthly Artmajeur magazine enabled us to build the largest database of plastic artists in the region, nearly 8,000 members,” confides the former creator of websites for artists. “We now have nearly 700,000 unique visitors on our marketplace every month. 70% are collectors, and 40% are French.” The platform will continue to enrich its algorithm and implement new artificial intelligence tools to make suggestions based on people’s tastes and interests.
Co-founded in 2012 by Samuel Charmetant and Yann Sarazin, Artmajeur.com is a member of French Tech and FrenchSouth.digital. The company is based in Clapiers. “Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole benefits from all the technological and economic advantages for establishing a company involved with digital activities,
” highlights Samuel Charmetant. He describes his plans: “We are going to raise funds to accelerate our business and apply the business model that we have validated here, internationally.”
