The “Coeur de Ville en Lumières” sound and light show is the first event in France to mobilize students from local schools and partner them with industry professionals, thereby promoting training in the digital creation sector.
Exposure for CCIs in Montpellier
The Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI) sector combines art and technology, creativity, and digital technology. It represents nearly 2,500 jobs in about 850 establishments in the region, and annual sales of €300 million (figures from the sector’ 2021 business survey conducted by Montpellier Métropole). It still has considerable growth potential and offers skilled job opportunities for young people. Many training programs are offered in Montpellier enabling students to acquire the skills and understanding of the increasingly powerful tools for creating animations, video games, sound, special effects, virtual reality, and more.

Energy efficiency, a major focus for the 2022 event
The energy consumption for a video mapping onto historical buildings is 15Kw/hour including video projectors (30,000 lumens) and the sound system. In comparison, a typical concert consumes 75Kw/hour.Furthermore, the event was reduced in length to two days with respect to previous years and the service providers selected for the event undertook various actions to compensate for the environmental impact of their services, such as financing the planting of trees, using ecologically responsible materials and low-energy technological equipment, among others.
One of the service providers also sponsors beehives in order to help preserve bees through the association “Un Toit Pour Les Abeilles” (A Home for Bees).
