In early 2021,
Montpellier Métropole embarked on an effort
to develop oenotourism in its territory. Following a year of meetings and constructive dialog with a wide range of stakeholders in the tourism and wine sectors, Atout France recently awarded the Vignobles & Découvertes (wine-makers and discoveries) label for “Montpellier Wine Destination.”
“This approach is unprecedented in its scope and ambition to position the Montpellier area as a wine capital on a national and international scale,” says Michaël Delafosse, President of Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole and Mayor of Montpellier.
The label, which is valid for
three years, is awarded to tourist and wine-producing destinations that
offer a range of tourist services. It recognizes the commitment by local authorities and their
72 partners (including wineries, hospitality providers, restaurants, leisure activities, heritage sites, and more) who have worked hard over the past year to boost wine tourism in the region.
The Montpellier Métropole area has unrivalled assets, starting with the quality and diversity of its wines, the abundance of its oenocultural heritage, and its attractiveness to tourists. With the Vignobles & Découvertes label, our goal is to further strengthen the visibility and attractiveness of this area as a destination.
This label represents the launch of “Montpellier Wine Destination!”
What is the Vignobles & Découvertes label?
Created in 2009, the
Vignobles & Découvertes label is granted for a duration of three years by
Atout France, the agency responsible for developing tourism in France, following the recommendation of the
Higher Council of Oenotourism. The label is granted to destinations specializing in tourism and viticulture with multiple and complementary tourism-related offerings (including accommodations, restaurants, winery tours and tasting, museums, and events) enabling clients to organize their stays easily and benefit from high-quality services.
