Eurovia is building a future for young people who are disconnected from employment

Information updated on 24/06/19

With 400 employees at its agencies in the Hérault department, Eurovia promotes local recruitment and sets an example for integrating young people disconnected from employment. Its agency in Baillargues is a perfect example.

As part of their involvement with social clauses for employment, some companies don’t hesitate to go beyond their legal obligations. That’s certainly the case for Eurovia, one of the world’s leading transportation infrastructure construction companies.

In March 2018, Montpellier Métropole honored us when making a progress report on its project to develop jobs in the metropolitan area, notably seeking to promote the inclusion of residents in priority neighborhoods,” explains Frederic Wilms, director of the Eurovia agency in Baillargues, just east of Montpellier.

Located in Montpellier’s Petit-bard district, one of the company’s operations generated 1,152 hours of vocational inclusion time (instead of the 500 hours stipulated in the social clause) and hired four people. But the stage is set by local authorities’ political determination.

Montpellier Métropole has implemented a virtuous circle: it chooses public works companies located within the territory, while encouraging them to provide training through inclusion and by hiring locally,” highlights the agency director.

A growing need for qualification

Over the past ten years, about fifty young people have benefited from a vocational program at Eurovia agencies in Baillargues, Juvignac, and Cournonsec. Half of them were hired with open-ended contracts. In order to achieve sustainable professional inclusion, the employer first offers candidates a fixed-term contract to evaluate their motivation and ensure that they like the job. The next step is a vocational training contract.

We often combine several contracts to be sure we can commit for a year,” explains Frédéric Wilms.

Each young person is supervised by a tutor who has been trained in coaching, as well as by GEIQ BTP34 (association of local public works companies) for theoretical training and social aspects.

Our line of work has been mechanized significantly, generating a growing need for people to have qualifications, which further encourages us to reinforce this approach,” says Frédéric Wilms… on his way towards new inclusion projects.
