The company could have just as easily settled in a different city. But Jonathan Herlem, Paul-Antoine Perez, and Thibault Faucard created their studio here in 2021. Le Son de l’Encre specializes in sound post-production and custom musical creation.

The company enriches the dynamics of the local radio, sound, and voice ecosystem, which is one of the main reasons they chose Montpellier. Jonathan Herlem holds a degree from the EMC Higher School of Image, Sound, and 2D-3D Creation in Paris; Paul-Antoine Perez and Thibault Faucard earned their degrees at ACFA in Montpellier. Complementing each other well, the three founders say that they found the local environment to be attentive and benevolent.

“We felt welcome in Montpellier.” We never felt that we were alone,” they say, while also mentioning “support provided by Montpellier Métropole and Coodio,” the only group in France for radio and voice professionals. Coodio’s goal is to “create the conditions for companies in the sector to work in synergy, collaborate, and experiment together.

Le Son de l’Encre could only agree. The startup’s offices are located next to Audio Workshop, and they easily found areas for collaboration with other players in the Montpellier ecosystem, notably Cécile Lombardi at Aparté Studio.

Just six months after it was founded, the studio is already rising fast. Orders keep coming in, both for custom musical creation and voice recording (motion design videos, advertising...) and sound post-production (such as video games). Their clients include Upside Partners, a club of real estate experts based in Paris.

“It’s wonderful to discover that we could launch a studio in such a great environment,” concludes Jonathan Herlem.
