Budget Télécom reestablishes hyper-growth by focusing on green energy

Information updated on 20/06/18

One year after launching its green and smart Mint Energie offering, the Montpellier company Budget Télécom raised €2 million to support its goal of 150,000 subscribers by 2020-2021. So far, so good: the listed company expects 50,000 customers by the end of 2018, accompanied by revenue almost tripled to reach €25 million. The company is hiring six people to join its team of 27 employees in the Millénaire district.

Launched in April 2017 by the Montpellier operator Budget Télécom, the Mint Energie brand is doubling its efforts to confirm its notoriety and attract new subscribers. After raising €2 million in May 2017, the company recently obtained an additional €2 million from the same international investor, L1 Capital. Providing low-cost and smart electricity from 100% renewable sources, where customers can track their consumption online in real-time, the Montpellier company wants to move even faster. Budget Télécom is targeting 50,000 subscribers by the end of 2018 and the break-even point of 150,000 subscribers in the 2020-2021 time frame.
“We are gaining 2,000 subscribers per month through word-of-mouth and digital marketing,” points out CEO Kaled Zourray. “On May 14, we launched a one-month advertising campaign with TV commercials on France 2, France 5, and Arte, along with posters in the Paris metro.” More subscribers mean more jobs. Six people were hired at the company’s facilities in the Millénaire district in 2018, notably for customer service. “We are the only Made in Montpellier provider!” highlights Kaled Zourray. “We will make that fact known throughout the territory with a poster campaign featuring an offbeat tone.”
The company also has partners in the Montpellier Métropole area, collaborating with Dyneff for a gas + electricity offering, and with Comwat, a specialist in smart energy consumption management hosted at the Cap Omega incubator, for a turnkey self-consumption photovoltaic offering that will be launched in Q3 of 2018.
Founded in 2000 and listed on the stock exchange since 2006, Budget Télécom successfully diversified its activities: in 2017, Mint Energie represented one third of the company’s €9 million in overall revenue. In 2018, Kaled Zourray forecasts €25 million in sales, representing growth of nearly 270%.
