Dropy upgrades online stores to marketplace 2.0

Information updated on 20/06/18
Launched one year ago by the young Montpellier entrepreneur Antoine Dematté, Dropy enables high-profile online stores to become marketplaces with links to catalogs of complementary businesses. Hosted at the Cap Oméga incubator, the young startup and its 10 employees are taking advantage of effervescence in the Montpellier French Tech ecosystem.
Antoine Dematté got his start with e-commerce at an early age. The 25-year old entrepreneur, a member of the French delegation at the “G20 of Young Entrepreneurs” held mid-June in Berlin, has been involved with the subject for the past decade. Following the success of TouchMods, an e-commerce site for mobile phone accessories, he launched the Dropy solution in May 2016, following a year and a half of development. “Sales have really been growing since April,” explains Antoine Dematté. Dropy received the gold prize for innovation at the regional Connec’Sud event, held in Montpellier in early June.
Dropy connects catalogs between different online stores and manages all flows free of charge. The company is paid a 5% commission on sales. For best performance, Dropy needs to maximize complementarity between product providers and resellers. “A Champaign provider and a chocolate creator go very well together! We already have 700 partners, suppliers, and resellers. We hope to have 1,000 by the end of 2017,” confirms Antoine Dematté. His priority goal is to “sign contracts with large companies to drive sales for our partners faster.” A change in the company’s scale could help support a major capital injection. At this point, the company has raised €1 million from business angels.
Antoine Dematté is satisfied with BIC assistance, notably the Jump’In Creation program that helped the young manager refine the Dropy business model early in the game, as well as with office space at the Cap Omega incubator. He feels at home at Cap Omega, where he benefits from numerous exchanges with other entrepreneurs: “I test my colleagues’ solutions and even make group purchases with some other companies. People always find time to talk, which helps me feel less isolated. BIC is a major facilitator.”
