e-dentech holds back cavities with remote care techniques

Information updated on 20/06/18
Incubated at Montpellier BIC, the startup e-dentech promotes remote oral-dental examination, validated by experiments performed with the Montpellier university hospital since 2014. This innovation demonstrates the beneficial links between the university, hospital research efforts, and entrepreneurship in the health and digital sectors, two strategic pillars for Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole.
“People shouldn't be afraid of dentists or remote care, which makes it easier for elderly, sick, and handicapped people to access services,” reassures dental surgeon Nicolas Giraudeau, a research professor at the Montpellier CHRU dental treatment, teaching, and research center, and a member of the E-health chair. In June 2015, he and four partners, including his father, founded e-dentech to accelerate the use of remote health care. The company has been incubated at Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole BIC since early 2015. The startup is the direct result of public-sector research work in Montpellier.
Nicolas Giraudeau, a “genuine product of the University of Montpellier,”also holds degrees in Health Care Law and in Health Care and Social Establishment Management. He defended his thesis on remote heath care in 2014. At the Montpellier CHRU, he coordinated the e-Dent project on remote oral-dental examination, which was approved by France’s National Health Agency in late 2013. About 2,500 patients from twenty medical-social establishments and penitentiaries in the region have benefited from remote dental examinations since 2014.
Owner of the solution, e-dentech is now actively organizing its activity: “A director of operations director joined the company in September, and we would like to be hosted soon at one of the local BIC facilities in order to benefit from their strong corporate culture. ”The startup has already convinced new clients, such as the Unapei association, which will equip 40 French establishments receiving mentally handicapped people. A partner in the international dental research association, IADR, e-dentech is also targeting export markets. Nicolas Giraudeau predicts that, “by late 2017, the solution will be deployed at about one hundred establishments in eight French regions and three countries.”
