After consolidating its efforts in the European market, the wireless sensor specialist is now seeking to reinforce its presence in North America. The Montpellier company, signatory of the Charter for Companies and Neighborhoods, completed a round of funding for €2 million in January with that goal in mind.

Specializing in wireless sensors and radio-frequency identification (RFID) technologies, ELA Innovation became known for creating sensors to identify and locate objects. The company has grown in France and throughout northern Europe with its high value-added products designed for the industry. "Our RFID tags enable to us to work frequently with construction sites and in sectors that require robustness and very long battery life," explains Pierre Bonzom, CEO of ELA Innovation.
The company has diversified significantly, developing a complete line of sensors that includes light, humidity, CO2, and open/close detection sensors. Notably, ELA Innovation recently developed a wireless temperature sensor. "This new sensor can, for example, identify a pharmaceutical product and measure its temperature during transportation," says the engineer, who is also launching a motion detector that can detect whether an object is moving or stationary.
"We are targeting the market to ensure the safety of products with high value-added, such as artwork transportation," adds the CEO. Based in the Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole area since 2002, the company employs 20 people, half of whom are in R&D. ELA Innovation generates 25% of its sales revenue internationally, where the company has been focusing for the past five years. "The €2 million in capital we raised in January will enable us to open offices to cover the Africa-Middle East region. By the end of the year, we will focus on Canada," concludes Pierre Bonzom. The company's goal is to increase the share of exports in its global revenue to 50% within the next three years.
