From 26 02/16
From 26 February 2016
to 28 February 2016
Information updated on 20/06/18
EXPOFRANCE 2025, the association that is leading France’s candidacy to host the Universal Exposition in 2025, is stopping in Montpellier from February 26 to 28, 2016.
Several cities, including Montpellier, will host theme-oriented forums if France is selected. Bernard Travier, Deputy Mayor of Montpellier and Vice President of Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole, went to Paris for the EXPOFRANCE tour kick-off. Along with the mayors or their representatives of the other 22 selected cities in France, he was received by Jean-Christophe Fromantin, President of EXPOFRANCE 2025. If France is selected, Montpellier was chosen to highlight its excellence in the digital and innovation sector, with a “Palace of New Technologies.”
After Marseille, Montpellier will be the second stopover city, from February 26 to 28, to welcome the EXPOFRANCE 2025 pavilion as part of its nationwide promotional tour. The pavilion will be set up on Montpellier’s Place de la Comédie, and will be decorated with a sphere 12 meters in diameter. The public will be invited to discover the history of Universal Expositions (World Fairs) through frescoes, 3D projections, a selfie space, and more, to help carry France’s 2025 candidacy.
Created in 2012, and recognized officially as having “general interest” for the population, the EXPOFRANCE 2025 association is leading France’s candidacy to organize the Universal Exposition in 2025. The country’s candidacy was announced on November 6, 2014 by France’s president in order to reinforce the country’s universal stature and to stage the exceptional wealth of the country’s historical heritage, while focusing on the future and promoting innovation. The candidacy is intended to be for “all of France”, as Universal Exposition 2025 will be organized simultaneously in several cities around the country, each having a specific theme related to the signature: “Opening up the very heart of men and lands.” EXPOFRANCE 2025 and its partners have two years to convince a jury that France and its territories are the best choice for welcoming the Universal Exposition 2025. This candidacy effort is funded by patrons and sponsors.
