Montpellier welcomes the French Swimming Championships

Information updated on 20/06/18
Montpellier’s Antigone Olympic pool will welcome the French Swimming Championships from March 29 to April 3, 2016. The stakes are particularly high this year, as this competition determines swimmers’ participation in the upcoming Summer Olympic Games. Over 2,000 people are expected to come to Montpellier for the event.
In late March and early April, the Antigone Olympic pool will welcome France’s top swimmers. They will all be here to try and win a spot on the French team for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro this summer.
Frédéric Micholet, director of the swimming pool, says: “We are expecting some 800 to 1,000 swimmers. With coaches and other club members, there will be more than 2,000 people.”
The Montpellier Métropole Swimming Club, MANUC, suggested that the French Swimming Federation hold its championships in Montpellier. The proposal was supported by Montpellier Métropole, which offered to make the pools available and provided financial support for the operation.
Frédéric Micholet adds: “The Club truly wishes to be present on the national scene, and Montpellier Métropole supports all sports willing to organize national and international meets locally. This is true for rugby, tennis, handball, and swimming!”
The Montpellier Water Polo team also plays at the swimming pool all year round. Over the past ten years, the team has regularly climbed the podium of French championships.
