Strong policy to support tourism as a major driver in the local economy
Montpellier has strong political will to make tourism one of the growth drivers in the local economy.
Local authorities have established a Metropolitan Tourism Office, bringing together professionals from the sector and several surrounding territories: Sète, Saint Guilhem le Désert, Le Grau du Roi, Pézenas, and more.
The metropolis benefits from world-class infrastructure, such as its Corum Conference Center/Opera house in downtown Montpellier, a Zénith auditorium, and the Arena complex - a modular 14,000-seat facility. A complete service offering was developed to provide personalized assistance to conference and event organizers.

An attractive destination
With its 300 sunny days per year, a pleasant Mediterranean climate, and privileged access to the sea, Montpellier is a metropolitan area with a great lifestyle.

1,000 years of history
Visitors roam through a thousand years of history, from the Maguelone cathedral perched on a presqu’isle overlooking the sea and marshland, to the new Montpellier City Hall standing tall by the banks of the Lez River. The best thing to do is meander through the medieval streets of the city’s central Ecussion area, visit the ancient mikve Jewish ritual bathhouse and the Saint-Pierre cathedral adjoining the western world’s oldest still-active medical school.

A territory of cultural excellence
The Montpellier Métropole area has always been a land of cultural excellence. Its reputation is the result of ambitious policy based on a rich and diversified offering in all cultural fields. This includes renowned festivals such as Montpellier Danse, Radio France Music Festival, Comédie du Livre book fair, and Cinémed film festival, as well as outstanding facilities such as the Opéra Comédie, Arena, Panacée, Fabre museum... and soon the new “MoCo” international contemporary art center.

In the heart of one of the world’s largest wine regions
Right in the heart of an immense, historical wine region, the Montpellier territory benefits from a variety of terroirs and a privileged climate that favors quality wine production.
