The game “Stray” developed by Blue Twelve Studio, featuring a roaming cat in search of answers in a post-apocalyptic universe populated by robots, received awards for “Best French Video Game”, “Best Independent Video Game”, and “Best First Video Game”. These honors come on top of the two awards it received last December at the Game Awards in Los Angeles for Best Indie Game and Best Debut Indie Game.

Established professionals are not the only ones to be celebrated: the game “Alaska” developed by ArtFX students in Montpellier received the award for the Best Student Video Game. The Montpellier studio AudioWorkshop assisted the students with sound post-production for their project.

Along with these awards, the game TinyKin, developed by the Montpellier studio Splashteam, was nominated in two categories, Best Independent Video Game and Best Game Design. Montpellier’s video game field is clearly not running out of steam!

“Cultural and Creative Industries are a cornerstone of Montpellier’s attractiveness. Our area is home to many excellent schools as well as world-renowned companies of all sizes. Together, they form a creative, talented, and flourishing ecosystem that challenges our imaginations and generates opportunities for growth and jobs. Video games, comic books, music, cinema, animated films, and TV series are being produced in Montpellier. The complementary nature of disciplines and expertise represents one of the major assets of this vibrant creative industry.

After the Game Awards ceremony last December, which honored two Montpellier studios – Blue Twelve Studios and Fortiche – our local community of excellence and promising talents was recognized again when two Montpellier games received Pegasus awards.  These various awards, along with the fact that we will be hosting the 2023 League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) Finals – the largest E-Sports competition in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa – next fall, represent genuine recognition of our region’s dynamism and an asset for Montpellier’s international reputation,
” says Michaël Delafosse, Mayor of Montpellier and President of Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole.
